Toxic plants

Generally, toxic plants that affect cattle will affect alpacas. It is therefore advisable to prevent access to the plants listed below (most common).

Tutu (quickly fatal) 
Oleander (quickly fatal)
Daytura (quickly fatal)
Rhododendron
Hemlock
Azalea
Nightshade 
Inkweed
Lily 
Willow-weed
Solanum
Ragwort
Foxglove 
Ngaio
Jerusalem Cherry 
Yew
Mallow 
Laurel
Buttercup 
Macrocarpa
Elderflower

The severity of the poisoning depends on the amount ingested and the time between ingestion and treatment.  If you suspect your alpaca has had access to any toxic plants, please ring Totally Vets as soon as possible for advice.
