Rural dog programmes

Totally Vets offers a range of programmes which include an annual on-farm vaccination for your working dogs, pet dogs and cats.  At that time, we will also supply you with a year's supply of worm tablets.

The parasite responsible for sheep measles, Taenia ovis, is a tapeworm that has a lifecycle including both sheep and dogs. To control the presence of sheep measles on farm involves controlling the part of the lifecycle that passes through dogs. The lifecycle has been shown to be as short as four weeks, so monthly dosing is essential if you want to control this parasite.

Parvo, distemper and hepatitis are all diseases that affect dogs, especially those that have never been vaccinated, or those whose immunity has declined over time due to lapses between vaccinations.  Dogs regularly in contact with large numbers of other dogs, especially migratory dogs (farm workers' dogs) or those with an unknown vaccination status (agility shows, hunt clubs, kennels), are at an increased risk of exposure to these diseases.

For more infomation on these programmes, please ring Totally Vets or come in and speak to our reception staff in Feilding or Awapuni.  Leptospirosis and kennel cough vaccinations as well as flea products are optional and can be added to your programme.
