LW Gap:           10% (i.e. 270kg actual vs 300kg target)

The effect of this liveweight gap on performance for this group of heifers is:

• 5% decrease in 1st calver 6 week calf rate
• 2% increase in 1st calver empty rate
• 9kg MS loss in 1st lactation
• 100 heifers x [(5 x $4) + (2 x $10) + ( 9 kgMS x $5 /kg MS )] = $ 8500

In the context of the whole herd of 400 cows op-erating a 25% replacement rate, there is an an-nual ongoing benefit to the herd of closing a heifer liveweight gap, equivalent to $8950 each year.
